Pink position for Vigo, Vermillion, Parke and Sullivan counties has restricted travel to emergency companies today.

“Unless you have a capable automobile, you’re heading to get stuck. It is deceiving,” Vigo County Commissioner Brendan Kearns mentioned of highway disorders now as he inspected nearby roads.

County freeway vans are focusing on major roads immediately after about 12 inches of snow was dumped on the Wabash Valley during the earlier 24 several hours. High winds and drifting snow usually means ongoing hazards for motorists.

Main Deputy Steve Meng of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Business office said deputies responded to 20 assist motorist phone calls for motor vehicles trapped in snow, 10 slide-offs, and 4 motor vehicle crashes.

“Main streets are generally cleared off but slick,” Meng said. “Secondary roads are not superior at all. Incredibly major snow. Several individuals trapped.”

Kearns mentioned the early morning solar and persons keeping off the streets is supporting county freeway crews get the streets cleared.

The county has 860 miles of roadways.

“I’ve heard of slide-offs in so several places,” Kearns claimed.

County officials will meet up with later on now to focus on the vacation advisory standing, he said.

Meanwhile, the Vigo County Library has declared that its services will be closed right now because of to the temperature and travel advisory.

The St. Benedict Soup Kitchen area at Ninth and Walnut is also closed right now.
