Ethics board dismisses complaint against Denver mayor for travel

30 minutes prior to he boarded a flight to Houston, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s Twitter account advised individuals to keep away from traveling for Thanksgiving.

DENVER — Even though the Denver Ethics Board reported it was “troubled” by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s selection to journey above the Thanksgiving holiday while publicly telling men and women not to, it has unanimously dismissed the criticism versus him.

This determination came down on Wednesday early morning. The board mentioned the criticism against the mayor ultimately did not increase to the level of an ethics violation. 

In an interview with 9News, Hancock termed his determination to journey about the holiday break “hypocritical” and a “error that I deeply regret and apologize for.”

The mayor flew from Denver Intercontinental Airport to Houston the day prior to Thanksgiving, and he went to Mississippi to check out his daughter. 

30 minutes prior to his flight was slated to leave, Hancock’s Twitter account tweeted to “stay clear of vacation, if you can” to slow the distribute of COVID-19. 

“It was just my own motivation, it was a private decision that I made, not a sensible 1, and I am man enough to say it, that I really should not have manufactured the journey,” Hancock claimed.

In an e-mail to metropolis workers on Nov. 18, Hancock wrote, “as the holidays strategy, we all very long to be with our people in particular person, but with the ongoing rise in conditions, I’m urging you to refrain from travel this Thanksgiving getaway. For my loved ones that indicates cancelling our standard accumulating of our prolonged family members.”

In the e-mail, Hancock also stated anybody who travels out of condition must quarantine for 14 times and that employees who cannot operate from house will will need to use their paid out time off for the leave.
