Cycling-Italian minister calls for Giro route improve following gondola incident
ROME, Italy (Reuters) – The route for Friday’s 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia must be altered to prevent the spot in northern Italy the place 14 individuals had been killed in a cable auto incident, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Enrico Giovannini claimed on Tuesday.
The biking race is scheduled to pass by the Mottarone mountain, where the Stresa-Mottarone gondola plunged to the floor on Sunday close to the shore of Lake Maggiore, but an alternative route is currently being talked over.
“Enrico Giovannini asks to improve the route of the third previous phase of the race out of respect for the victims of the tragedy of the cable automobile,” the transportation ministry said in a assertion.
“In the technical conference held yesterday in Stresa with local institutions and authorities, the Minister had agreed on the advisability of shifting the route and immediately contacted the organisers.”
Original studies said the cable snapped as the gondola neared the conclude of its 20-moment journey to the best of the Mottarone mountain.
Colombian Egan Bernal qualified prospects the Giro d’Italia after 16 levels of the race.
