Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ EP Teases a ‘High Stakes and Terrifying Journey’ | Enjoyment
Welcome to the Grishaverse, the dark fantasy planet made by bestselling youthful grownup creator Leigh Bardugo. In Netflix’s upcoming eight-episode drama Shadow and Bone, viewers will dive into this expansive planet headfirst — many thanks to Bardugo’s many novels set in the specific landscape, from the trilogy Shadow and Bone to duology 6 of Crows.
The story mostly follows the harrowing voyage of self-discovery for freshly powered soldier Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) in the fictional wartorn Ravka (impressed by Tsarist Russia). Alina will hone her distinctive solar-summoning powers as an crucial portion of an elite army hoping to liberate her homeland, but risk (in the sort of Ben Barnes‘ character General Kirigan) is afoot.
Alina’s tale, which is from Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone guide trilogy, collides with a trio of creative criminals, regarded as the Crows (led by Freddy Carter’s cutthroat Kaz Brekker), from Six of Crows. The latter are from Ketterdam, which according to executive producer Shawn Levy (Stranger Items), “feels like a blend of previous Amsterdam and a modern day Vegas.”
But equally Alina and the Crows are headed towards even darker territory: The Shadow Fold, a pitch-black expanse loaded with ferocious horrors like the Volcra. “Any seem, any mild, can bring in the Volcra,” Levy teases. “Crossing the Fold is a superior-stakes and terrifying journey.”
The remarkably expected fantasy series has been compared to the likes of Harry Potter and The Starvation Video games, with components of other epic adventures (assume: Ocean’s 11). “It’s big, exciting, intimate, and entire of varied people,” Levy suggests of the show.

And supporters of the unique tales should not get worried. “Leigh Bardugo has been intimately included in the adaptation as my fellow executive producer, so any modifications have the Bardugo stamp of acceptance,” Levy promises. “But there are definitely some new Easter eggs in there for followers of the reserve to love.”
