Officials tour Maine town to look at transportation assignments

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Maine Division of Transportation (Maine DOT) Commissioner Bruce A. Van Notice, Maine DOT officers, and Searsport City Manager James Gillway a short while ago frequented Searsport to look at two transportation initiatives.

The $9.2 million Route 1 reconstruction task will strengthen safety, pedestrian access, bicycle access, and mobility though correcting pavement framework deficiencies, including parking, and starting to be ADA compliant. The route connects the Port of Searsport to other parts of the state.

The $1.65 million Port of Searsport project will dredge about 22,000 cubic yards of content from the navigation channel. Dredged material will be utilised to make a laydown pad for extensive-term cargo storage.

“The reconstruction of Route 1 will make important advancements to the roadway to make sure risk-free, successful vacation, while the routine maintenance dredging of the Port of Searsport will help reduce shipping and delivery delays at Mack Point,” Collins, Appropriations Committee senior member, reported. “As portion of the yearly appropriations system, I submitted these requests on Maine DOT’s behalf to assist fund these projects, and I will go on to advocate for these investments through my job on the Appropriations Committee as the approach moves ahead.”
