As Minnesota’s to start with iron ore mine, the Soudan Mine opened in 1884 and produced significant grade, exceptionally tricky ore until finally it closed in 1962. The subsequent 12 months, the United States Steel Corporation donated 1,200 acres like the mine to Minnesota for a point out park, and in 2010, the state purchased 2,848 far more acres from U.S. Metal to guard the Vermillion Lake shoreline. In 2014, the Lake Vermillion Condition Park and Soudan Mine State Park had been merged into the Lake Vermillion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park.
