Top 10 popular UK destinations Brits are booking for summer 2021

Cornwall has been named Brits’ top destination of choice for a UK holiday this summer, according to a new study.

The research, commissioned by, found that nearly half of Brits who are planning a summer staycation are looking to head to Cornwall.

It’s not hugely surprising, considering the coastal county has been a firm favourite with holidaymakers for decades thanks to its picturesque landscapes, golden sandy beaches, brilliant hotels and charming towns.

Meanwhile, the Cornish town of St Ives has already been named one of the world’s top emerging holiday destinations for 2021 according to TripAdvisor.

Cornwall isn’t the only destination proving a hit with holidaymakers.

The Scottish Highlands and Devon both closely followed in joint second place, with nearly 43% of respondents hoping to visit the regions for a getaway.

The Scottish Highlands are ideal for those looking to make the most of the great outdoors with its rugged landscapes, remote villages and epic scenery (Visit Scotland has a handy round-up of brilliant walking trails worth having on the radar).

Meanwhile Devon is one of our top picks of the best family-friendly UK destinations thanks to its brilliant beaches, swim-friendly waters, museums and attractions from Diggerland to Crealy Great Adventure Park.

As for the bronze medal in the study? This went to Cumbria, specifically the Lake District.

A staycation is the most likely scenario for Brits this summer, and although we don’t yet know what the landscape will be like regarding any restrictions, Boris Johnson has said that he’s optimistic about summer holidays, while Matt Hancock promised a ‘Great British Summer’ amidst the vaccination programme.

In fact, according to the study four in five Brits are planning a staycation already.

Lockdown has also seen a boost of younger Brits considering a trip in the UK. Research showed that 18-24-year-olds were most likely to never have considered a staycation trip were it not for lockdown restrictions, with a quarter claiming they only went on a UK holiday because they weren’t able to travel abroad.

UK travel firms are already noting record-breaking numbers of summer bookings with Cornwall, Devon and the Lake District consistently proving particularly popular.
