Tour guides, journey operators in Agra stare at uncertain long run owing to Covid-strike tourism sector

With the tourism sector having a strike owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the livelihoods of various persons involved with this business have been severely impacted in Agra.

Tour chief Mahendra Soni, who was living a relaxed lifestyle prior to the pandemic struck, has been pressured to acquire a financial loan to fulfil the money needs of his family.

“I am living on borrowings. I have been a tour chief for 34 yrs, but since the commencing of the pandemic, my career was influenced and I was compelled to decide for tiffin delivery company, but that way too did not operate,” he instructed PTI.

With the momentary closure of the Taj Mahal owing to a rising amount of Covid-19 instances, tour guides like Soni are struggling to make finishes meet up with.

Shamsuddin Khan, the president of the Approved Tourist Guides’ Affiliation, mentioned there are about 2,500 tour guides in this Uttar Pradesh town, of which 400 are authorized by the office of tourism, 700 are authorized by other departments of the state govt and the rest are functioning on stay permits.

With the sector taking a strike, the livelihoods of the tour guides, tourist photographers, vacation operators, taxi drivers, emporium staff members, lodge and restaurant house owners and a number of many others have been influenced.

“My earnings have been hit considering the fact that last calendar year. I did not get any assignments since then and was pressured to pick out another job to feed my spouse and children,” Narendra Lawania, who employed to work as a French-language tour guideline ahead of the outbreak of the pandemic, advised PTI.

“I opened a garments store, but owing to the lockdown, even that is now shut. I do not see any very good career prospect in the upcoming as I have no plan when the tourism sector would revive,” he said.

An additional French-language tour guide, Subodh Kumar Saraswat, reported for the previous 13 months, he has been jogging a grocery store. “Every single day I struggle to prepare the fundamental necessities at home.
